Discoveries: Leonardo

Leonardo takes practice. It is a catch-all app with many features and effects.

My interest in this reflection is Selections and Masks. (Whew, chaos ahead!) For masks, think of stencils for painting numbers on your curb (or for a food metaphor, donut v donut hole).

You all inspire me with the images you post to our shared album. The questions asked in class twist new possibilities in my head. You are the creative ones and I am more of a technician - pushing all the buttons and trying different effects. Linda's red rooster and feathers collage in Leonardo showed me I'd missed some of it's finer features.

Recorded two video demos on Leonardo, see the Videos page listing to find the links.

My strategy is to PLAY with casual images, not images I care about. A photo with broad areas of graduated color and an image of big areas of flat color, maybe include words (as graphic elements). By playing with images at first, my inner child is inspired to explore, undo, and make mistakes. Yes, by stumbling and doing the unexpected - wonderful things happen. Life lesson: Spontaneity Takes Practice. Remember? Go with the flow. Go where the tools and techniques take you.

What are the save, share and export option of any app? How well does an app play with other apps? In late 2017 Leonardo frustrated me because the export as PSD (Photoshop with layers) to Dropbox (Yo!  The file was too big to email!) was not working. Now in August 2018 after the 2.2 update this month - exporting a PSD to Dropbox worked like a charm!

Tutorials for a complex app like Leonardo might open your eyes to similar features in other apps.
