Pioneer Village Location Shoot Example Journal - 2017
Seminar leader report

Review settings for Camera apps based on handout. Encourage participants to use 1) Apple Camera, 2) Camera+, and 3) ProCamera with vividHDR in-app purchase.

In-app galleries used for Camera+ 2.

Turn on Airplane Mode to save battery on location.

My photo count, minimal due to coaching folks on using apps and getting beginning settings.
Apple Camera  12 shots, mostly of our group taking pictures.
Camera+  39 shots
ProCamera  5 shots

The blacksmiths activity was shot with Camera+.

Turn OFF Airplane Mode on the way to lunch.

Arrived home to 'known wifi' and opened iPad > Photos to see Camera Roll has already updated — even though iPhone is still asleep. Over wifi, iPhone sends new photos to iCloud and sleeping devices are update. This does not work the same with Keynote, Pages and Numbers documents. You must open the app on the other device and it the document download begins.

On iPhone, review Photos > Camera Roll for the day's pix. If any look like candidates to edit, mark as Favorite. The Favorite album is easy to find for other apps. Wow, just confirmed that Favorite Album syncs between iPhone and iPad!

Opened Camera+ in-app gallery, the icon is a flower. At first, the pictures have to render to this screen. Unedited images appear with a border like 35mm film strip. After you edit an image, this border disappears. I want to see my blacksmith action figures. Especially the sparks flying that Chip recommended. Something is there but I had tried for a "burst mode" and didn't seem to get multiple shots.

One image is a good candidate for editing and posting to Day 1 Shared Album.

Editing in Camera+ (Blacksmith in apron holding finished piece)
Step 1) Touch image > touch edit paint brush icon > The Lab opens. Touch Clarity and move the top slider towards the right. Not too much. Vibrancy Boost the the lower slider, move it towards the right. Not too much.
Step 2) Touch Filters > Touch Retro. Touch Ansel and touch Advanced. Move the slider towards the left, 47% or so. Some color remains.
Step 3) Touch Frames > Simple > Vignette.

Touch Done to finish editing. Now this photo has a plain border in the gallery view.
This image is still in the Camera+ in-app gallery. Time to export to the Camera Roll so it can be shared in the Day 1 online Album.

I keep (way too many) photos in my Camera+ gallery in case I want to modify the edits I've made. Bad practice, but I did buy the larger storage model of phone!

Looking at the Camera+ gallery on the iPhone, I see buttons along the bottom: Select, Share, Undo. Touch Select > touch edited image > touch Save. LOOK AT THES OPTIONS CAREFULLY: Save, Export, Export Without Edits, Commit Edits.

I want to keep the image for class demo and further edits. Export! Saves the edited image to Camera Roll. But the shared album is designed to show both the original and the edited image. Return to the gallery > Select > Save > Export Without Edits.

Review Camera Roll
Press the Home button. Open Photos > at the bottom of your screen touch Photos and see the two new images.

Share photos with class
Touch the original photo to the enlarged view. Touch the Share button, box with arrow. Three rows of icons appear: Airdrop, share apps and extensions. Touch iCloud Photo Sharing. PAUSE HERE. Look at the shared album name and change if a different album is intended target. Add a comment now - or later, touch the Post button. Go back to Photos and touch the edited photo to the enlarged view. Share this photo.
