Develop Your Photograph

How a photograph will “develop” over six sessions
Example Workflow - Circa October 2017
Hint: Make screen snapshots along the way
  1. Take an original photo. (Using Apple Camera, image goes to Photos immediately. Using vividHDR the photo will go to Photos and stay in the in-app gallery for future edits. Using Camera+ the photo will stay in the in-app gallery for future edits until you save or export to Photos.)
  2. In Photos, mark image as Favorite so you can find it easily. (Periodically clean out Favorites to keep the collection manageable.)
  3. Basic edits in Photos (straighten, clarity, structure …), use Done button to finish.
  4. Using the Photos > Edit > Extension feature, open Retouch to retouch or heal elements in photo, use Done > Done to finish. (Original image)
  5. New versions of original by opening other apps and loading image from Favorite Album.
  6. Open Waterlogue app and import image, try several variations. Use the Share button to save to Photos. (New images saved to All Photos Album.)
  7. Decide if new image needs to be marked as a Favorite.
  8. Blend original and Waterlogue image:
  9. Open Image Blender and load the Waterlogue and original photo to blend. Flatten the current work and add a new image to blend. Try the rotate, scale and blend mode options. Save the new combination. Repeat to blend again. Use the Share button to save to Photos (Camera Roll).
  10. Decide if new image needs to be marked as a Favorite or you continue to work as new images will appear at the end of All Photos Album.
  11. Open Snapseed and open current image. Explore touchup tools. filters and effects. Export a new image.
  12. Open Leonardo and import image as a layer. Duplicate original layer for quick re-start.
  13. In Leonardo add empty layer with white background. Move duplicate of original below white layer and set visibility to none.
  14. Import another image as a new layer, set opacity and try different blend modes.
  15. In Leonardo duplicate layer and set visibility to none to keep a current copy.
  16. Be sure to select the right layer for the next steps. Use the Selection tools to make a selection, set feather and convert to a mask.
  17. Experiment with other effects like remove color, apply textures, add blur or add ripple. Explore.
  18. Export image to Photos.
  19. Open Distressed FX and open Leonardo processed image. Add effects. Export to Photos > All Photos / Camera Roll.
  20. Optional, Open Retouch open current photo and retouch to remove obvious effects. Export to Photos > All Photos as a new image.
  21. Open Vintage Scene and load image to make adjustments. (Try the Dice icon to get a random effect.) Save as a new image to Photos > All Photos.
  22. Open PhotInfo and open last image. Edit Tags to add Author and Copyright information. Save a new image to Photos > All Photos.
  23. Open Photo Manager Pro and create/open Finished folder. Import last image with Author and Copyright info.
  24. Open Mpix and open last image to confirm print sizes. Submit for print with Mpix if desired.
  25. Open Dropbox app and import image sequence and screenshots as a backup.
  26. Open PhotoSync app and move image to your computer for additional processing.
  27. Open Photoshop and open image. iOS image is 8-bit, use the Image > Mode > 16-bit option. Add further edits as desired. Save for print.
  28. Open Photo Manager Pro, create a new folder and save images from major steps in your workflow. Add any screenshots as workflow documentation.
  29. In Photos remove the heart on this image to free up your Favorites and make room for new projects.
  30. In Photos delete stages of images - but keep your original photographs.
Some apps in this outline are good to preview possibilities, as in "rapid prototyping."

Try other apps in this workflow. Instead of Leonardo try Photoshop, Lightroom, Enlight, Procreate or Pixelmator or search the App Store for new photo processing apps. Instead of the Apple Camera, Camera+2 and the other camera apps listed here, checkout new apps.

Read App Store Reviews before updating apps critical to your workflow to be sure new options are not deleting the features you rely on. Scroll down to look at related apps and read their reviews. Explore. Enjoy.
