Email Greeting Spring 2017

Greetings! No, you have not missed anything. Remember we have a late start to our brief seminar. (After my vacation ...) we begin on Thursday, March 30th. Location to be announced the week before! We will be shooting pictures, using the Apple Camera, Camera+, ProCamera and vividHDR. (As you can tell, there are many similar sounding app names. I will give you the exact link to download each app from iTunes.)

How many camera apps do you need? Many apps offer access to the camera, but you’ll want them for their effects, filters and user interface. Some apps are one-trick ponies - making it fun to shoot > edit > share. Other apps include powerful editing features and it takes time to process your images, time to get comfortable with the user interface and move the image from one app to another to another. Hence the term “workflow.”

Consider making a plan that organizes your apps based on workflow. In our seminar, you might organize them in a folder with apps on six pages, one for each meeting. You can see a jpg of how I’ve done this on my iPad at http://tinyurl.com/gr55eso This is an option to help you see process. Later, individual folders might be named Camera, Catalog, Editing and Styling (or anything that works for you). Move your favorite apps to the first page of each folder. The Camera folder can go into your Dock for easy access!

Expect to get app recommendations from classmates as well. How will you keep track of apps, referrals and techniques? A quick option is to create a new Notes page that stays on your iOS devices. What other ways do you keep “sticky notes,” my forehead only holds two. New apps are released everyday. Reading App Store features, details and reviews will help you identify the apps that fit your interests.

Get a headstart on editing - specifically layer blending modes with this ebook from PhotoShop Cafe. Masks, layers and blending modes challenge me everyday.

We will be sharing examples of our work using Apple’s Shared Photos Albums. I will create an album for each meeting and share with our group. You will be able to upload from your iOS device to the shared album and add comments. Other class members can add comments to individual images. For more info, see https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202786 Your Apple ID account email will subscribe to each shared album.

There is a waitlist for our seminar and those folks can follow our activities via the website. Details will be sent to registered participants in email with some edited content appearing as posts or pages on the site.

App developers have given us powerful tools to express our vision. I’m excited about the iPhone photo work ahead and looking forward to our shared creative adventures.
